Trees are indispensable in a living environment. Especially in children’s play areas, trees are of great value. In addition to the familiar spatial qualities and environmental values, trees – when properly applied – can also have other functions. They can offer opportunities for play, appeal to people’s creativity and introduce children to nature.

You can climb in large, low-branched trees. But you do have to plant an older sturdy specimen or be patient for a couple of years until the branches have grown into thick arms. In addition to low branches, climbing trees preferably also have a slightly vertical branching pattern.

Weeping trees are ideal for hiding underneath. Some species have branches down to the ground and form a natural refuge. And some pollarded trees are ideal to build a tent or hut around. The branches above the top of the trunk act as a support for boards or as a connecting point for tent cloths.
