Stations are a crucial link for passengers on their journey to their destination. The arrival of High-Speed Rail (HSR) and the increase in the number of passengers were behind the Dutch government’s decision to boost the quality of a large number of stations and carry out extensive refurbishments. Furthermore, the passengers’ requirements have changed inasmuch as they prefer the time they spend at stations to be relaxing and comfortable. The area surrounding the station therefore needs to reflect this.

Trees set the intended mood

Van den Berk trees were called upon to play a part in the ‘New Key Projects’ at the Rotterdam Centraal, Breda and Arnhem stations. In previously redeveloped station areas such as Amsterdam ArenA, Apeldoorn and Antwerp, our trees have been contributing to the outdoor space for many years. Each area has developed its own character and trees are able to emphasise it or even largely create it, as illustrated by the Pinus sylvestris at Apeldoorn station.
